Jesse e-mail – August 14, 2013

Oh Momma!!
so many great things have happened this week!!! first off there are a bunch off hidden treasures here in the mtc that other missionaries have left behind for others to find. Elder kunzler and i both searched all the ceiling panels and found some balls and other hidden treasures up there and we even found some maps but we dont have the keys to the rooms:P and the showers here are so bipolar! one minute it will be a great temperature the next its inferno! but theres one shower thats not connected to all the rest and its worth getting up the extra 10 minutes to have it:) another funny thing that happened this week was that in our lesson i made a funny mistake pronouncing a word. in spanish the word for "sin" is Pecados, and the word for "fish" is Pescados. so of course i got the two mixed up and i accidently said that through the atonement we can be cleansed from FISH! i couldnt stop laughing and even our investigator broke character for a second. but it was a good learning experience!. now i have a really cool story that happened at last nights Tuesday devotional. we had heard for a while that there would be an apostle coming for this devotional so of course we ate dinner as soon as we could so we could get really good seats in the choir. well everyone was so excited that as soon as they opened the gates to the mtc every missionary just ran to the marriot center. in all the chaos i got separated from my companion and ended up being with elder Farnsworth. when we were seated with the choir we were about the 7th row back and the audiences right of the BYU stadium. so they were descent seats, but come on i could do better! i saw 8 seats in the center of the stadium and 6 of them were taken by some elders so i asked Elder F. to hold my seat and that i would be back. now the choir gets seated 1 hour before the rest of the mtc gets there so nobody was in the center section yet. i went over and talked to the missionaries that were waiting there and they said they were ushering. so i asked if they needed help and they said yes. so that meant me and Elder got to usher, and get the best seats in the stadium. so skipping ahead to all the chaos being over we were finally seated and thats when the apostle came in. Elder Richard G. Scott of the 12 walked in, everyone stood up and the feeling there was amazing. heres the next cool thing, since we were at the end of the row in the middle that meant the main camera was 6 seats to our left. that camera had to take the shot of the choir on our right. so all 8 of us elders were in the way. somehow there were 6 seats reserved right behind us but that left me and Elder Farnsworth nowhere to go. so as the opening song came closer we got more nervous. turns out we had to duck down and lean as far forward as we could to avoid being in the shot! haha that was exciting! the rest of his talk was amazing, and it was about prayer. so it was something that i really needed to hear. and as it turns out that was the first live mtc broadcast to be sent to all the mtc around the world so that was legit!! some other cool things that happened is that me and my companion got to skype a lady in mexico! we got  to teach her a lesson and everything, the things we can do with technology is absolutely amazing! and last but not least the temple is finally done being cleaned or refurbished and we get to go through it today.  i am really excited to finally go! well everything here is going great and i havnt broken anything or anyone yet so thats good news! just know that i love and pray for you all everyday:)

Love Elder Whetten!!

well this week has been a lot of fun crazy because just like dad told Jesse someone is trying to kill me i had a zip line accident i am fine i can still walk and saturday i was stung by a bee and my arm swelled up but sister choi took good care of me. SISTER CHOI KNOWS ACURPUNCHER!!!! it was so funny i get to her and the first thing she asked me was if i was afraid of needles and i said no and so she poked my fingers. after it was all done she said i was a good patient lol I love her so much. so yeah and then when sister payne and i were trying to get home we got lost she’s not very good and following instructions either. so we were lost in seattle for a while and the good part of getting lost was we got to see the space  needle and it was getting dark so it was all lit up. it was so cool. we made it home.
we had a meeting last week and i started thinking about all the people in my area and how i only have 18 months to teach these people of Washington and that’s not enough time!! i have so much to do and so that means i need to really take every day for what it’s worth and every day is a gift from God. In our mission President choi told us to sing all the time and at every door step and it is so amazing music truly brings the spirit in like nothing else it’s amazing. We still don’t have an investigators but we are looking and working hard. we are really trying to get the ward involved and have them catch the wave so we are working with the members a lot. We can only eat with the members in sundays and mondays unless they have a non-member then we can go eat with them. this rule is here because from 5-7 people are home and those are the best tracting hours because everyone here is so busy. but we are getting feed well they still bring us meals and take us out to lunch.
well everyone i love you a ton and miss you more than word can even say. but the Lord is blessing us and we will be ok. write letter i love getting them so have a great week and remember the Lord is with you!!!!

(The following is from a letter Diana mailed home – it is the story of the zip-line accident)

So, this morning Sister Payen and I went for a jog and the Leatham’s have a zip line and before we got ready this morning Sister Payen went down once real quick, she asked me if I wanted to go down but I said no.  So, all day I have been trying to get the nerve up to go down the zip line.  So, Sister Payen and I finished washing the car and right before we moved on to something else I decided to go down the zip line.  Well, it was really fun till I fell off.  When I fell the first thing I hit is my face and then my chest.  I had the air knocked out of me, so before Sister Payen could get to me I was trying to calm down so I could catch my breath.  When she finally got to me I was trying to laugh but I still couldn’t breath.  I didn’t realize I hit my face till I looked in the mirror.  Sister Payen took a picture of my face right after it happened so it looks pretty cool.  The really bad part is I hurt my knee.  We iced it right away but I can’t put to much pressure on it so I can gimp everywhere.  I am fine, though, don’t worry.

Its P.Day already! haha the days are flying by so fast! its crazy that school is already starting! but i am just so glad i dont have to go to that inferno again!! what play are you doing this time! i truly have an amazing mother:) i dont know how you handle so many kids at one time, i wouldnt know how to handle that! its so good to hear that everyone is going to the temple more, its truly la house of the lord. the temple right by the mtc opens on monday so we get to go through next wednesday!! im so excited about that! well today started out great, i was playing dodge ball with a few other elders and of course i ended up breaking a stupid light bulb! the chances of breaking that lightbulb line up with the fact that im just Jesse:P i cant hardly tell what days are what because the time just goes by! the only reason i know what day it is, is because my watch tells me! if i didnt have it i would be lost and my wrist would feel naked. Okay seriously the Gila Valley is everywhere! an elder was giving a talk on monday and one of the pictures that he was using was literally that gila River. im starting to realize what a wonderful place that valley Is. i think the funniest joke that ive heard so far in the mtc is that the only difference between the MTC and prison, is that the prisoners get visitors:P well i haven’t written you letters in a little while so ill be writing some today! so expect someting in the mail sometime this week or early next week! i Love you all!
Love, Elder Whetten!

Washington is great!! it is so beautiful and you would love it theirs the most beautiful plants i have ever seen everywhere. the hoses are huge they are so big. you cant tell if you have neighbors  because there's just Forrest everywhere its like the mountain but at sea level its so cool when i figure out how to send pictures I will send them but I forgot to bring two memory card and a case for them so i am scared to send it in the mail. my new compaion is sister payen she is very sweet and kind. she has been a trainer her whole mission shes been out sence january she is 21. right now i am living with members i havent met them yet but i have heard they are nice.sister and pres. choi are so amazing they were definatly sent here for me. they are so loving and caring sister choi is really short and its so cute. my new adderss is 10675 NE. 20 St. Bellevue, WA 98004 .I have not gotten your package yet but i am sure it will get here soon.  well i really dont know what to say now i am so tired but its ok i will get to bed tonight. i miss you all so much and cant wait to hear from you. i love all of you a ton and remember Heavenly Father answers prays he has done it for my every day since i have been on my mission everything will workout just the way it should and it all happens on Gods time. I have always thought that when we want something God would give it to us the way we wanted it, but the truth is that God has a plan for all of his childern and you chose that plan so if things arent going the way you want them to just remember God is in control and once you know that your life will not be easy but it will be happy!!! i truly love this gosple and cant wait to teach everyone is the Seattle area well i love you all and i cant wait to get you letter and here about eveyones life!! talkto you on monday!!!!!!

It makes me really happy to know that Taylor is still going over to the house:) the spanish is starting to come by a little better now, it was just really confusing the first week because it seemed like they were trying to shove the whole language down our throats at one time. for our excercise we get to go to the gym 3 times a week and either play volleyball or basketbal and then there is four square. i usually play volleyball or basketball because i like those more. but four square gets  pretty intense here! literally someone broke there elbow playing it! speaking of injuries! my companion elder brown rolled his ankle playing basketball last thursday so now hes got a huge ankle but its really pretty and bruised! we havnt been able to go to the temple yet because its being referbished or something like that so its being cleaned but we should be able to go there soon! i havnt gained any more wait yet so thats good news for me! im at a constant 190! our district just seems to be getting closer and closer everyday! it really is amazing how close we have gotten, i already feel like we have known each other for eternity! and who knows maybe we have! last night we had our weekly devotional from a former member of the seventy and i kinda got slapped in the face. because before the meeting had even started we had heard that a member of the 12 was going to be there so we were all pumped and got there earlier than usual. but when we found out that it was only a former 70 we were really not too happy. and this is where i got humbled. because the talk that was given was literally an answer to my prayers and some of the things that he shared just touched the whole stadium. i realized that it doesnt matter if its a member of the 12 or a former 70 that they have been called of god to fulfill there calling and they all giving us the same message. so we shouldnt just listen to the "important" speakers, we have to listen to all of gods messangers! its really good to hear from you and i hope everyone is doing great back at home! I Love You All and i hope to hear from you soon!:)
Love, Elder Whetten:)

and i saw the herringtons!!! and nathan monterith, jason boren, a kid i know from thatcher, its all too mush fun! and i killed a mouse:)
